Work in schools
“Dance is a vehicle for creativity and expression that the children cannot access in other areas of the curriculum or life.” Jamie Olney, Sherington Primary School
“Once again, Greenwich Dance has played an invaluable role in helping the Greenwich School Support Partnerhip move closer to meeting the Government’s Public Service Agreement target on participation in PE, sport and physical activity by young people. The ability of Greenwich Dance instructors to motivate and involve both staff and pupils in dance-related activities is unquestionable.” School Support Partnership
Greenwich Dance works closely with the schools in Greenwich, last year working with 93% of Greenwich primary schools and 100% of Greenwich Secondary Schools. These projects manifest themselves in a number of ways, detailed below are some of the most current programmes running in the Borough.
After school dance clubs
Greenwich Dance works with several primary schools across the borough to provide after school dance clubs in a variety of different dance styles.
Charlton School
Greenwich Dance has a long-standing relationship with Charlton School, a Community Special School for students aged 11-19 years with special educational needs. A group from the school performs annually at our youth show case, sometimes in collaboration with other Greenwich Dance classes. The school also takes part in Greenwich Dance projects including NRg In Schools, an in-curriculum-time education project, working with a professional dance company towards a performance piece.
Dance Festivals
Greenwich Dance hosts Dance Festivals for both primary and secondary schools in Greenwich.
INSETs for teachers
INSET training is delivered annually for primary school teachers.
NRg In Schools
NRg In Schools is an intensive in-curriculum dance project delivered across several secondary schools working with a professional dance company towards a performance piece.
NRgXTRA
NRgXTRA projects (after school dance classes for secondary schools) supported by Sport Unlimited have run in a number of secondary schools across the borough.
Support Projects
Support Projects (cross curricular work) support the professional development of primary school teachers whilst providing dance classes and a performance opportunity for a number of schools in the borough every term.
