Inventions for Radio 1964 & The Clearing

Presented by Charles Linehan Company (UK)

Charles Linehan returns to Greenwich Dance as part of Dance Umbrella 2010 to present two new pieces, Inventions for Radio 1964 and  The Clearing.

For Inventions for Radio 1964, dancers Ben Ash and Rachel Lopez de la Nieta will perform sequences to Delia Derbyshire's 1964 electronic score which, over 13 minutes, features reassembled interviews with people recounting their dreams. Lighting will create a unique environment in which space and choreography are compressed through the lowering and tilting of the half ton lighting rig.

The Clearing uses a newly commissioned score by Richard Skelton, to be performed live. Slow transformations evolve within a complex weave of beautiful sonorities and interplaying rhythms.

Often celebrated for the sparse, minimalist beauty of his choreography, these new works are the first Charles has created for his own company in 3 years and demonstrate forcibly his ability to create understated intensity through the interactions of movement, light and sound.
